- How to Connect Email Account to Amazon Alexa.
Hey everyone in this post I’m going to show you how to connect an email account to amazon alexa, and have Alexa read email. amazon alexa devices are loaded with functionality, and are a great foundation for building out your smart home. In late 2018, Amazon added the ability for users to link their email account with an Alexa device. This makes it possible for you to ask Alexa to check your email account, have Alexa read emails, and even reply to messages.
In this post, I’ll walk you through how to link an email account with amazon alexa, and have Alexa read you your email. You can connect Alexa to Gmail, Outlook, and Hotmail email accounts.
Step 1. Open the amazon alexa app on an iPhone, iPad, or Android device. You’ll arrive on your home screen.
Step 2. Tap the “Menu” button in the upper right corner of the screen. A menu flys in from the left side of the screen.
Step 3. Tap “Settings” toward the bottom of the menu. The Settings screen appears.
Step 4. Scroll down to the Alexa Preferences section in the Settings menu, and then tap “Email and Calendar” in the Alexa Preferences section. The Email and Calendar screen opens.
Step 5. Tap “Add Account” toward the top of the screen. A screen displaying the different types of account you can connect to appears. You can connect either a Google or Microsoft email account.
Step 6. In this example, I’ll tap “Microsoft” to add a Microsoft account. The Microsoft screen opens.
Step 7. Make sure the toggle next to Email is on the right side of the slider to give Alexa access to your email account. Additionally, you can use the toggle to the right of Calendar to give Alexa access to your account’s calendar as well. In this example, I’ll de-select Calendar.Tap “Connect Account” at the bottom of the screen
Step 8. A sign in screen appears for the service provider you’re linking Alexa to. In this example, I’ll enter the username and password associated with the Microsoft email account I’m connecting Alexa to. When a screen appears asking if you want to give Alexa access to this account, select “Yes” to give Alexa access. An Account Added screen appears.
Step 9. Tap “Done” in the upper left corner of the Account Added screen.
You’ll be returned to the Alexa app where you’ll see a screen where you can adjust the settings for your newly added email account. Now, all you have to do is say, “Alexa, check Gmail,” “Alexa, check Outlook” or “Alexa, check Hotmail” and your Alexa device will give you an overview of your new emails.
